Hi there, my name is Nora Salem. I am a settler in so-called Edmonton, Canada and I've been running a mutual aid campaign with my uncle Moustafa Darwish since March 2024. Like everyone in Gaza, my uncle and our family have been displaced many times from their homes. What began as a Ramadan endeavour to get financial assistance to families so they could afford iftar meals has turned into a campaign of helping them survive the atrocities on the ground until we see a liberated Palestine inshallah.
After months of witnessing the daily horrors being perpetrated with total impunity from international governments, I felt called to try and help those on the ground who are facing malnutrition and starvation thanks to the occupation’s unrelenting collective punishment. With the destruction of Gaza's food sources and a lack of humanitarian aid, people are trading and bartering what they can. Looting of aid is common, whether it's Gazans trying to find a way to bring in an income and care for their families, or via paid agents planted by the occupation to maintain exorbitant prices in the markets.
The money raised in this campaign goes directly to Palestinians in Gaza without going through an organization that has overhead costs. As of October 4, 2025, our mutual aid campaign has raised $67,650 and helped 573 families and individuals afford basic needs from Rafah to Al Mawasi. My uncle carefully documents how money is being utilized so we can report via updates to contributors. You can see all recent & previous updates on my feed here.
In June 2025, we expanded our efforts to include working with local water tanks so we could deliver potable water to displacement camps in the Deir Al-Balah area. We distributed 90,000L with $3,770.
In September 2025, my uncle and fellow community members organized a tekkiya (a community charity kitchen) that fed approximately 800 families in need, costing a total of $2,285. These are additional efforts aside from the primary goal of the campaign which is to provide cash assistance to Gazans in dire need.
Currently, the majority of our funds trickle in randomly via direct e-transfers or GoFundMe donations which we are so grateful for. This Chuffed page has been created to provide a way for people to have the option for automated monthly credit card payments. One-time contributions are always helpful but it would be incredible to have a baseline of donations that my uncle can count on every month as he is known in the communities he serves, and is constantly being asked for help.
Every donation and sharing of our campaign makes an impact. From the bottom of mine and my uncle's hearts, thank you for all your support and care.
