Help Devonté Student Teach in Brazil

Hi everyone :-)... My name is Devonté. Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page.

I'd first like to introduce myself: I am currently a first generation transfer student studying at the University of IL at Chicago. I am an educational psychology major, and have a semester left until I complete my bachelors degree. I've been accepted into a study abroad program in Brazil surrounding Education, Globalization, and the Child.

My college career has been a journey! Two years ago after completing my associates degree, I decided to leave nursing school and re-enrolll in a University.

I left nursing school with no intention on becoming a teacher. I started substitute teaching at a small school on the southside of Chicago. It was there I discovered purpose vs intention. Since becoming a substitute teacher and special education para-professional. I've discovered a new purpose, and that is impacting Urban youth in inner-cities through Education.

Every student I am graced to work with I pour, I connect. I even begin to reflect on my struggles with being an independent student to help enhance their hunger to grow as future leaders. Seeing my students engage fuels my fire.

It has always been a dream of mine to study abroad. I believe we grow through experiences. When I was presented the option to study abroad in Rio de Janeiro, a City in Brazil I first hesitated. This will be my first time traveling out of the country.

Your donation will help increase my global perspective surrounding Education and children living in South America. During my trip to brazil, I will be visiting schools, engaging in workshops with local students, and participating in cultural excursions.

I am expected to leave in May 2025.

Aside from working in Education I serve the worship team at my Church (New Life Covenant Southeast). I've been a member since the age of 14. I also serve my fellow students at UIC College of Education as a student ambassador. This trip is more than just for leisure. I'll be able to experience iconic landmarks such as Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain.

Educating children is my purpose. Serving is my passion. Your donation will be greatly appreciated. No amount is small. Please help me as I wrap my undergrad career and prepare for graduate school fall 2026.
