Help Devan Heal: Community Hero's Journey
Update: Devan is currently recovering at home and happy to be with his kids. He is doing as well as one can. His progress is good but slow, and he is taking it one day at a time. While he is able to walk, he cannot lift, and his breathing is labored and difficult at times. He is very much looking forward to regaining his mobility and returning to normal life, although this incident will affect his ability to work for a while.
This incident has deeply shaken Devan and his family, but they are focused on healing and moving forward. Devan is immensely grateful for the medical team and the unwavering support from his family, friends, and the broader community. The strength and unity within The Bureau Barber & Shop community have been overwhelming, with many clients and friends reaching out to offer their love and support.
"I am truly overwhelmed by the love and support from everyone. It means everything to me and my family." Devan
As he continues to heal, Devan remains committed to returning to the barbershop as soon as possible, eager to reconnect with the community that has shown him such tremendous support.
Help Devan with medical bills.
On Friday, June 28th, Devan played the hero, standing up to some teens causing trouble in his neighborhood. In the process, he was stabbed, nearly costing him his life. Devan sustained a punctured lung and thoracic, broken ribs and sternum. An ambulance ride saved his life as they got the chest tube in just in time. Doctors have said he is lucky to be alive. Thankfully, he is now home recovering, surrounded by his family and friends.
This incident is a reminder of the strength and unity within our community. Devan, looking out for his neighbors and friends, took action and was injured because of it. Devan has always been someone who looks out and stands up for others. As his siblings, we've seen this again and again in Devan's life. He has a love for people that runs deep. Once you're one of his people, he will stop at nothing to protect you.
We are asking for the community to take a turn and look out for Devan. While Devan is on the road to recovery, he has a journey ahead of him. We are asking for donations to help Devan be able to rest and heal without the stress of missing work. As a barber and owner of The Bureau Barber and Shop, this injury will significantly impact the time Devan will be able to be behind the chair doing what he loves. Donations will be used to cover the extensive medical bills brought on by this situation.
This GoFundMe was started by Devan's siblings, Alyssa Harrop, Shelby Jones, and Chad Pearson. Funds will be used by Devan to cover medical bills for an ambulance ride and multiple day hospital stay as well as recovery and other out patient services.
Devan, thanks for always being a hero.
