Help Dean Access Life-Changing Therapy
We are Dean's parents, and we are raising funds for our son's therapy.
Dean is a very sweet and goofy child until his mood disorder is triggered, and then he becomes violent. Most days, he attacks at least one person, wanting to kill them or himself. Last year in school, he hurt a little girl, and she ended up hospitalized for several days with a brain injury.
Our 9-year-old has been receiving in-home behavioral therapy since he was 2, and we have had major success in some areas, and little to no success in others, including aggression towards others and self-harm. These violent episodes have become more severe as he gets older, larger, and stronger.
The therapy we are hoping to try is called Magnetic Resonance Therapy (MeRT), which targets specific areas in the brain with magnets to help the brain retrain processing. This therapy is not covered by insurance and costs around $13,000 or more, depending on the length of treatment.
This is a daily treatment for 8 weeks, which means we will need to take time off of work as well as cover the costs of the therapy.
If you've met Dean or heard his family talk about him, you know how draining his behavior has become and how desperate we are for relief. Dean also wants this because he does not like hurting people and is so very remorseful afterward.
If you are able to help in any way, we would be unbelievably appreciative.
