She was born with the most severe form of Spina Bifida. This was not known until the moment they took her from my belly by c-section. They told us she would never walk nor have any quality of life. But, she's a fighter y'all. She is a miracle! She has many medical issues but she can walk. She had her first surgery at 6 hours old. That was the only other one until now that I wasn't there with her. They transferred her immediately to Children's. This latest one I can't be there with her because of Covid 19. I believe this was her 14th surgery(my mind is weary). She has a shunt in the right ventricle of her brain. She's had 2 surgeries on her spine. A bladder augmentation, both of her achilles heels were cut and stretched in the 5th grade. Because of her spinal defect, it was pulling and causing her to walk on her tiptoes. Both of her lower legs and feet were in casts for over 6 weeks. That was another hurdle she crossed.
She's had many surgeries, procedures and some very long hospital stays. But she emerged stronger, more thankful, more caring and humble with each one. Her medical issues eventually caused her to have a lack of self esteem so adulthood brought her many different trials and tribulations that she fought hard against ... and won! She's a fighter y'all!
After she entered her teens it was realized that she would not be able to have children. Three years ago she was blessed with a miracle just like she is. My grandson Theron already shows her traits of concern and understanding for others. He also has her golden heart. Her life has now come full circle as she has gotten engaged to her dear friend of many years Josh who had loved her for many years without her knowledge of how he felt. So now she has her miracle baby Theron and a wonderful man that loves her unconditionally. They have been engaged for over a year and planning a wedding for Sept.13, 2020
So now we come to present day. She had been experiencing pain after eating that had gradually gotten worse over time. She finally found out the culprit was her gallbladder. It needed taking out. The Dr. is new to her and he realized she was not going to be his typical 20 minute laparoscopic procedure. After studying her case and doing scans and xrays he scheduled the surgery for last Friday morning June 19th. He told her if it took much longer than normal he would keep her overnight because she was complicated and high risk.
After almost 4 hours he was done. He called and said she had a lot of scar tissue from the many previous surgeries. We already knew that. So while he was in there he decided to take her appendix as well, to prevent another possible surgery in case it ever went bad. She video called later on and she looked good. A little loopy still but good. And she said he was letting her come home. I was shocked because she was high risk and complicated. I continued to keep Theron because she had three separate incisions. She called early evening screaming and crying in pain, Josh was about to take her to the ER. They gave her something for pain, did scans and ruled out internal bleeding. They said she had severe bruising. Gave her antibiotics for a UTI and sent her back home! I was awakened in the very early hours Sunday morning the 21st by a phone call from Josh saying he was rushing her to the hospital because she was violently throwing up blood. At this point I am going to insert the post I made on social media asking for prayer for my baby girl.
**Update on Ciera. It's killing me that I can't be there with her because of Covid 19 but at the same time I'm thankful for the precautions because of her preexisting conditions. She is in ICU at Parkridge East. I spoke with her nurse earlier. They have drained a lot of blood from her abdomen. And they have already given her 2 units of blood and expect she will need more. The blood they are getting is dark so until it starts turning red they will hold off on the scope down her esophagus to see if they can find the bleed. Her BP was very low in the 80's and is now in the 120's. Her heart rate and breathing is still fast. I then got to speak to her. She was much more lucid than last night. She knows what's going on and is still in a good bit of pain. Her breathing was labored and I could tell by her voice she is worried. She asked me to give her baby some love for her. I told her not to worry about anything and just rest. It's still a long road ahead but it was medicine for my heart to hear her voice! I will wait until they fix her but they and the dr will hear from me. When a normal surgery takes 20 minutes and it took them almost 4 hours and took 2 organs, they should have kept her overnight! Then Josh took her back to the emergency room the night of the surgery because even with her high threshold, her pain was unbearable. They supposedly ruled out internal bleeding, said she also had a bladder infection and severe bruising from the surgery, gave her antibiotics and sent her home. And she just about bled out y'all! This was the first time I wasn't able to be with her and they should glad of that! They will hear about it from me ... after they fix my baby girl. I hope everyone requesting an update sees this. Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. Please keep lifting her up.
Update*12:43 a.m 6.22.20
I spoke with her nurse at 10:30. She is having a very rough night. She has a fever of 102.4°and is still very nauseous and in pain. They are not going to attempt the scope to locate the bleed until those two issues are resolved. Good thoughts and prayers. Please!
So now it is just past midnight on Saturday morning 6.27.20. Ciera had her first surgery one week ago yesterday. Yesterday evening she had her 3rd surgery in less than week. She has been on a ventilator and oxygen since I made that post. My girl is the strongest person I have ever known but my goodness how much can one take? My heart is breaking because I can't be with her. It's killing all of us. Josh and Theron miss their best girl terribly!
So while I can't be there, I feel helpless. This thingy about GoFundMe kept popping up with every update I would post on my FB page. I didn't think anything about it because it's only Josh and I missing out on work some, however I don't know how long her recovery will take once she finally gets home. But it dawned on me that they have been scrimping and saving for their wedding in September and for a down payment on a house. So maybe we could help her. I've had several people urging me to do this. As her mama it's killing me that I can't be there by her side, so I can at least do this to ease some financial pain for her. Lord knows if I could take her place and ease her pain I would in a heartbeat. Ciera is always quick to help other's in any way she can. I knew my girl was loved by others but until now I didn't realize just how much. I am truly in humbled awe at the love being shown to her and the main reason is because she doesn't hesitate when other's are in need. So please if you can help her now, please do. She has a wedding to plan when she finally gets home and big hopes to make a home with Josh and Theron. She's a fighter y'all.
