Help Brittany Heal After Severe Accident

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Brittany Marshall. I am a mother of two beautiful girls and a daycare teacher. I am thankful for my life, but it has recently come at a high cost.

On October 23rd, I was driving home from a friend’s house. It was a dark country road, and I somehow managed to miss a stop sign. This caused me to drive off a 12 ft wall, hit a tree, and land in a creek. Strangely, I had my phone in my hoodie pocket and remained conscious. I was able to call emergency services myself. It took the emergency responders approximately 10 minutes to find me. Upon discovering me, extraction was difficult. Both my legs were pinned under the dashboard. The jaws of life and a ram were used to lift the dash and get my legs out. There were a couple of cuts and bruises on my left leg, but my right leg was a different story. In total, it took 13-20 minutes from arrival to get me out of the car.

Once in the ambulance, the EMT that rode with me radioed the hospital stating I had an open patellar fracture. When I arrived at the hospital, the staff had a difficult time getting my body temperature up. I had X-rays and CAT scans to assess the damage. I was informed that I had a hairline fracture of my right heel and had shattered my kneecap. I would need surgery on my right knee. My surgery was set for the next day. The surgeon reconstructed my knee with what bone was still present and 3 pins. It was then that I was informed that I would be out of work for 4 months.

I was on the medical floor from October 23rd-29th. While I was on the medical floor, my heart rate was elevated and my hemoglobin levels decreased steadily. I was put on a heart monitor and eventually medication to help maintain a steady rate. On October 27th, I got another CAT scan to check for blood clots because the bruising I had on my abdomen and chest was hard. On October 28th, I received a blood transfusion to combat the low hemoglobin. I was moved to the Rehab floor on October 29th. I was on the Rehab floor from October 29th to November 8th, where I did occupational therapy and physical therapy each day for 1.5 hours each.

Since I have been home, I have had nurses and physical therapists come to my house. I have gone from non-weight bearing to toe touch to weight bearing as tolerated. Now I have a medical bill totaling over $100,000. That total does not include the ambulance ride and the fact that we are down to one income while I’m off work.

I am fundraising to cover my extensive medical bills and support my family while I am unable to work.
