Help Blue's Journey to Walk Again

Donation protected
Id like for you to meet Blue. She is a Blue Healer Australian Cattle Dog. The grandkids call her Bluey after the cartoon. She is a beautiful sweet loving 18 month old Blue Healer who recently experienced a sincerely life harrowing event that has left her paralyzed in her hind legs.
On March 12th, 2024 Blue and her human Mom, Victoria, worked all day doing yard work. It was a beautiful day. Victoria went inside to take a short break, she soon realized that Blue was not with her. She went out to call for Blue but Blue never came to her call... until 8 days later.

A lot happened in those 8 days.
My name is Jamie, and Victoria is my Mom as well. My Mom was absolutely distraught over that week. She called all the neighbors, she hung "lost dog" flyers of Blue on the street corners, put alerts and rewards on social media, she called up and down the streets in surrounding towns. She even contacted an animal psychic communicator who revealed that Blue was possibly injured and unable to find her way home. Mom was not giving up... she continued hoping and searching. On about the 4th day Mom received confirmation that she had been hit by a car and was witnessed running off to the woods. More days of worry and searching.

On March 20, 2024 Mom found Blue in a deep culvert on the side of the road. Blue was barely alive. It had been 8 days since she was so badly injured. She was wrapped and tangled and trapped in briars and brambles so terribly that Mom had to go home to get brush cutters and shears to release Blue safely. With the help of a lovely neighbor, Blue was freed and taken to immediate veterinarian care. She was given fluids to treat dehydration and medications for infection and comfort care. X-rays revealed that Blue had no broken bones but that there was an area of darkness and swelling on her spine that was most likely contributing to paralysis and her front left paw was disabled due to severe tendon damage. However, the only thing that could be done was for time to heal and allow rest, nourishment, love, and medications to take effect.

Blue has been a speedy healer. For that we are all grateful. The beginning of her healing process was slow. She suffered 8 days alone with painful injuries, scared, thirsty, hungry, paralyzed and in shock. Her demeanor reflected her trauma for the first 2 weeks, she was not fully trusting that she was yet safe.

It has been 5 weeks and she has displayed a prominent zest for life, she is so happy to be alive and feeling better. She seems to have come to accept her disability, but she struggles as she cannot walk no matter how hard she tries. Mom bought her a wheelchair for hind legs but Blue only has one real strong front arm so it has been a challenging process.

Veterinarian specialists have suggested an MRI ($3000)to have a closer look at her spinal damage. Blue has regained minor feeling in her back legs and is now able to control her bladder and bowel function, so there is hope that she could benefit from further assessment. further testing would reveal if she could possibly be a good candidate for surgery. Blue certainly wants to walk again, and if its possible, she is the dog to do it.

I do realize this has been a long story and i thank all of you who have remained interested.
The bottom line is that the testing for Blue is very expensive as would be surgery if she qualifies. Victoria is a single 74 year old with a small farm to care for on limited income. Blue is of the working dog breed and is eager to get back on her feet to help her Mom.
Please if you can help with a donation for Blue to receive the professional health care that she she so deserves, It would be so appreciated by Blue and our family. We love her very much. We are in awe of the progress she has made of her overall health, emotional wellbeing and her personal acceptance of her limitations. Blue has a sassy spirit and she really wants to run.
Thank you for your generosity and caring
We are eager to get started on her next steps to recovery
