Hello everyone,
My name is Belinda Charleston-Green and your financial help is needed due to the abrupt closure of Rainbow Health. I am currently unemployed and asking for financial assistance in getting my family to the Leading Women's Society Gala in Atlanta, held October 31-November 3. I really need to have my family there to celebrate this prestigious moment with me to fully understand the all the hard work that I've done in HIV community over the past decade. This is an incredible honor for me to be selected to be a part of the 2020 Leading Women’s Society. The Society is composed of women from all over the world who mentor, train and are moving with a vision focused on helping eradicate the spread of HIV. Being a member of the Society means I am joining a prestigious group of women who are an inspiration to their families. I have shown outstanding displays of determination, strength, and leadership.
I am a dynamic and passionate advocate dedicated to empowering African American women and people of color through HIV education and support. With a mission to uplift underrepresented and underfunded communities, I have made significant strides in breaking down barriers within the HIV community, providing essential resources and fostering informed health decisions.
I began my impactful work in HIV advocacy in 2013 as an HIV Case Manager. Recognizing the need for expanded support services targeting women living with HIV, I tirelessly pursued funding and support, leading to the creation of the women's support group HERR Day Out in 2014. As the coordinator, I oversaw all aspects of the organization’s activities, including Health Education and Risk Reduction events, Psychosocial Support Services, and Self-Care events. My dedication, creativity, and drive ensured that women living with HIV receive the support and education they need.
In addition to my organizational efforts, I played an active role in various community planning processes. Since 2015, I have been a committed member of the Community Voices Committee for the MN Council for HIV/AIDS Care and Prevention. My advocacy extends to attending and rallying at events such as Minnesota Day on the Hill and AIDSWatch 2023. On a national level, I participated in numerous conferences, including USCHA and NMAC’s: BLOC, ELEVATE, ESCALATE, and GLOW trainings. My community engagement has earned me prestigious awards, including the IUNHC Scholar in 2022, the 50 over 50 AARP Community Award in 2022, and the Legacy Grace Project Community Impact Award in 2024.
I have also been known for my fundraising efforts, which have enabled women to attend national conferences like PWN Summit 2018, The Grace Conference 2021, and Positive Living Conference 2023. These opportunities help reduce stigma and inspire women living with HIV by connecting them with thriving peers. Additionally, I've organized annual women's conferences to mark National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD) and is currently collaborating with Gilead to decrease stigma in Black churches in Minnesota.
I have exemplified leadership, dedication, and resilience. My tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to my mission continue to make a profound impact on the lives of many.
