In the early hours of the morning on 10 September, Rifka woke in her bed in Denpasar surrounded by rising flood waters. She was trapped inside for hours, fearing for her life as the rain continued to pour. She has lost everything.
A former au pair in Perth, Rifka has the kindest heart and will do anything to help anyone. Now she needs our help. Like most people in Bali she has no insurance and there is no government assistance. Please contribute any amount you can. Funds will be used by Rifka so she can get settled into a new home, replace essential belongings and to enable her to start earning a living again. I (Fiona Palmer, in Australia) am organising this fundraiser.
Prior to mass tourism development, Bali was filled with rice fields which soaked up all of the rain. Absent urban planning and land misused for development has enabled this natural disaster to occur. It is heartbreaking to see the local people suffering.
