Hi, my name is Shellayna and I am fundraising for my brother Albert and his family. Albert underwent major cardiac surgery on July 1st and now he and his family face financial hardship with medical expenses and loss of income.

Albert has a hereditary condition called Marfan Syndrome, which impacts the connective tissues of the body- most notably in the heart. Albert’s aortic root developed an aneurysm due to this condition. He required life saving surgery which will leave him out of work for several weeks, at least. While his employer has been incredibly understanding, he has not been with the company long enough to accrue the PTO necessary to sustain the family.

Albert’s recovery has included multiple complications including a second surgery and pneumonia. His hospital stay was expected to be five days but was thirteen days.

Albert and Takara have a new baby (3 months old) and a 4 year old son. Takara is a teacher and is fortunately able to help care for Albert and family until returning to teaching in August.

Please consider donating to this family as they endure this difficult time. In addition to the loss of income due to Albert’s medical leave, they face ongoing insurance costs, normal household expenses, and a very large deductible for the heart surgery and hospital stay.
