Help Alan Silverman get the medical care he needs

On February 24, 2022, my Dad lost his best friend Lucky, a cute little pug he had spent the last 14 years with. After losing his cuddly companion, he fell into a depression at 79 years old. He struggled with eating and taking care of himself. He also did not want anyone to take care of him. He stopped taking his routine medications but always wanted to seem like he was doing okay. He always said, "Everything is okay here, no matter how bad he felt."

My name is Ilana Silverman, the youngest child of Alan Silverman, who is now very sick in the Dominican Republic. He is a US citizen who is currently hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit in Santo Domingo. I have been here with him for the past week and a half trying to get him to the right hospital to nurse him to health. He is fighting various infections; pneumonia, sepsis, and a critical urinary tract infection, all of which have affected his cognitive and physical health. He has signs of kidney failure and has had multiple sessions of dialysis. He has also gotten blood transfusions and will probably need more, and it is challenging to find blood in this country given that he is O- I have to physically go out and purchase blood for him from a blood bank and then bring it to the hospital. Blood can cost up to $150 per pint here. The goal is to get him healthy enough to bring him back to the United States, where he can get proper treatment with his insurance and be with his family.

He has children & grandchildren in NV, NY/NJ, & OH who are dearly concerned for his well-being. Due to him not having any insurance in the Dominican Republic, it has been very difficult to get him his necessary treatments. Everything must be paid out of pocket for the hospitals to accept him, and they always require an upfront deposit. We have been rejected from 2 emergency rooms upon arrival.

Anything you can donate will assist our family with paying for medical bills, staff, medicine, supplies, and anything required for our family to fly to the DR to be with Alan during this time. We are also seeking medical transport to the US, so please let me know if you have any information.

El 24 de febrero de 2022, mi padre perdió a su mejor amigo Lucky, un lindo pug con el que había pasado los últimos 14 años. Después de perder a su tierno compañero de vida, cayó en depresión a la edad de 79 años y tuvo problemas para comer y cuidarse. Tampoco quería que nadie lo cuidara. Dejó de tomar sus medicamentos de rutina, pero siempre quiso parecer que estaba bien. Es alguien que siempre dice "Aquí todo está bien", sin importar lo mal que se sienta.

Mi nombre es Ilana Silverman, la hija menor de Alan Silverman, quien ahora está muy enfermo en la República Dominicana. Él es un ciudadano estadounidense que actualmente está hospitalizado en Santo Domingo y he estado aquí con él durante la última semana y media tratando de llevarlo al hospital correcto que lo cuidará hasta que se recupere. Está luchando contra varias infecciones; neumonía, sepsis y una infección urinaria crítica, todo lo cual ha afectado su salud cognitiva y física. Tiene signos de insuficiencia renal y ha tenido múltiples sesiones de diálisis. También ha recibido transfusiones de sangre y probablemente necesitará más, y es muy difícil encontrar sangre en este país dado que él es O- Tengo que salir físicamente y comprar sangre para él en un banco de sangre y luego llevarla al hospital. La sangre puede costar hasta $150 dólares por pinta aquí. El objetivo es que esté lo suficientemente saludable para traerlo de regreso a los Estados Unidos, donde puede recibir el tratamiento adecuado con su seguro.

Tiene hijos en NV, NY/NJ y OH que están muy preocupados por su bienestar. Debido a que no tiene ningún seguro en la República Dominicana, ha sido muy difícil conseguirle el tratamiento que necesita. Todo debe pagarse de su bolsillo para que los hospitales lo acepten. Hemos sido rechazados de 2 salas de emergencia a su llegada.

Cualquier cosa que pueda donar ayudará a nuestra familia a pagar las facturas médicas, el personal, los medicamentos, los suministros y todo lo necesario para que nuestra familia viaje a la República Dominicana para estar con Alan durante este tiempo. También estamos buscando transporte médico a los EE. UU., así que si tiene alguna información al respecto, hágamelo saber.
