This is Akain, our bright and resilient little boy, who fills our lives with so much joy.

My name is Sameera Samarasinghe, and I am the proud father of Akain. He was born with Microtia and Atresia, a rare congenital condition that affects the development of his right ear, leaving it small and without an ear canal. This condition affects his self-esteem and social confidence, as he often notices how different he looks from his peers. As a father, it is my greatest wish to give him every opportunity to thrive, and that is why we have made the life-changing decision to pursue Porous Implant Ear Reconstruction (PIER) surgery with the world-renowned Dr. Sheryl Lewin in California, USA. This method creates a natural-looking ear using a porous implant, which is then covered with Akain’s own skin to ensure durability and a realistic appearance. We have scheduled his surgery for October 2025, with three weekly follow-up visits before we return home to Brisbane, Australia. The total cost of the procedure, travel, and related expenses is approximately 130,000 AUD, and while we are covering as much as we can, we still need 12,000 AUD to make this journey possible.
