Help Adina Heal: Thriving Through Breast Cancer
Donation protected
Hello sweet friends & family! This is Alexa, organizing on behalf of my beloved Adina.
Most everyone who encounters Adina in community knows her as a bright light of deep love and care, who shows up consistently for others with a selfless heart. Whether she's bringing soup to sick friends, handing out gratitude stickers on the dance floor, or sending homemade cards to loved ones, Adina is a beacon of joy and connection in all our lives.
The day after Christmas, we got the shock of a lifetime when Adina discovered a rather large lump in her breast.
She finally got in for imaging on Monday 1/27, where they found a concerning 4cm mass in her left breast and one affected lymph node. After reviewing the imaging results on the spot, the radiologist asked to do a biopsy right away, which was an unexpected and rather intense process.
They rushed the biopsy labs, and we got the results on Tuesday 1/28 - stage 2 ductal invasive carcinoma, grade 2 (mid-level aggression).
We don’t have all the information yet, and are waiting on a CT scan, bone scan, and various other tests to know whether it’s spread beyond the lymph node, what types of treatment it will best respond to, etc.
As of right now she has not decided on a definitive course of action for treatment - but it looks like she will most likely opt for a double mastectomy. Based on the advancement of the cancer, it is recommended within the next 60 days.
We’ve already met the AMAZING surgeon, and I'm so grateful that Adina is feeling well cared for and supported by her treatment team thus far.
She hopes to work with both an allopathic and naturopathic oncologist, and looks forward to hearing both perspectives on her best treatment options.
While we are both extremely lucky and grateful to have OHP health insurance, there will be many out-of-pocket expenses incurred throughout this process. Here's an estimated breakdown:
- Rent & utilities for 2 months (recovery) - $3,800
- Naturopathic oncologist visits - $2,200
- Naturopathic oncologist treatments - $3,000
- Additional treatments like HBOT, acupuncture, supplements, etc - $2,000
- Miscellaneous recovery supplies - $1,000
Your financial support ensures that we are able to cover all our household expenses while Adina is out of work, purchase supportive recovery items, as well as get her the holistic & natural treatment options that are not covered by insurance.
Thank you thank you thank you, dear community! Your support means the world to both of us in this time. May all your generosity return to you tenfold!
