Healing from the Root: A Spiritual Apothecary for the People

My name is Yayi Nkisi Malongo, and I am a spiritual worker, herbalist, and root doctor grounded in Hoodoo, Lucumí, and Palo traditions. Through my work, I create sacred healing tools, herbal oils, tinctures, conduct readings, rituals, and spiritual care practices for people who are often left out of the medical system, the wellness world, and the safety net that should protect us all.

We are in a time when a need for spiritual connection is high, compassion seems to be low and basic healthcare has become a luxury. Many of our people have no insurance, no access to doctors, and no way to afford the care they need to live with dignity. But Spirit taught us long ago: the land will provide, and our ancestors will show us the way. So I do what my mother, grandmother and great grandmother always did if something was wrong, I go to the herbal cabinet, because I know it's something in there that can fix it.

Normally, I move quietly working behind the veil, speaking when Spirit stirs me to speak. But the time for timid stepping has ended.

To be fully present for the people, my presence must be felt by those who are seeking help, and even by those who may not know they need it yet. I’m stepping forward now, fully, because I know that healing is needed, and that I’ve been called to serve it.

I’m asking for your help to raise $4,500 to expand my spiritual apothecary and healing offerings so I can reach more people with remedies like blended tinctures, salves and various other herbal aids that support the mind, body and soul while being rooted in sacred care and ancestral medicine.
