Handicap Equipment needed 4 Newly Disabled to Work
Donazione protetta
My brother, Brian "Woody" Woodson suffered an accidental fall while doing yardwork back in May. The fall caused Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES) which, in layman's terms, is when the very lower spine is tremendously compressed to the point that the nerves leading from the spin to the lower body are pinched off. The result is that, even after surgery, Woody is not able to walk and is wheelchair bound. It is possible, and we are all hoping that the nerves will regrow. However, nerve regrowth, if it does occur, takes years. Woody's career has been in the logistics and supply chain management field. The company where he is/was employed, despite their claims of having a "family environment", requires him to be on-site for his job. As such, Woody has not received a paycheck since May and the savings are running out quickly!!
Woody did apply for disability through the social security administration, but his claim was denied because "it is possible that this is not permanent". Which is true but it is also true that being in this situation for YEARS is tough. What is known, is that Woody would rather be paying into social security than taking out at this point in his life.
I am trying to raise funds to provide basic handicap accessible aids that are NOT covered by insurance and will allow Woody to be self-supporting. He needs a used handicap vehicle with hand gas/brake controls, and a wheelchair ramp to enter and exit his house. These seem like easily acquired items, however, even used, these are expensive items to purchase. Since Woody has not received a paycheck since May the banks consider him unemployed (even though he has not been laid off, or fired, technically) hence they will not provide a loan for the needed equipment to allow Woody to be self-sufficient.
Woody was blessed with a great job and thankfully has a loving family and tons of friends. He did everything right and saved a responsible emergency fund that has lasted 6-months but is almost depleted. What is needed is a way for Woody to get back to work so he can be self-supporting once again.
Woody would never ask for help on his own, so I am reaching out, on his behalf, to the large community of friends, family, and people unknown to us, or him, at this point. Woody wants to rejoin the work force and he needs help to provide the tools to make this happen.
Time is of the essence for getting Woody back to work. Thank you for your consideration.
