It all started some years ago as a iniative to decrease violence in my neighborhood. of East Harlem, New York City. Years beforehand I coached at neighborhood events and the kids would call me to coach in other various tournaments. It was a natural translation for them to relate to me and look at me as Coach/Mentor.
For me, initially it was difficult but I knew I wanted to create and build leaders for our future so I called them the Taino Chiefs.
Those long hours with those kids in the gym teaching them Basketball skills and life skills has grown my program to be guided by respect. Growing throughout the years helping so many kids on and off the court... It was my duty to enhance my training and help kids get to the next level...
I believe it was only right to create my own teams. Teach kids principles like hardwork, teamwork and discipline for them to become successful individuals in society.
Doing so will take help from everyone involved in funding for uniforms, training equipment, travel fees and tournament fees. I ask for any generous donation. Nothing is too small, because in this world Everything Counts!!!
