Since 2017, G.R.A.C.E. (Granting Resources And Community Enrichment) Inc. has provided food, clothing, emergency assistance, toys, school supplies, wellness workshops, basketball activities, as well as resources and access to self-care services including hygiene kits, haircuts, grooming products, and monthly family trips. We have served Harlem, the Bronx, Georgia, and Grenada, impacting approximately 3,500 youth, adults, and senior citizens. In establishing a center, this community based nonprofit organization will be able to create a home that operates freely to serve thousands more in the heart of the community where our journey of service began.

In honor of my late grandmother, Mrs. Reverend Gracie Hyman, I, Gracie Cedres, founded G.R.A.C.E. Inc. to make resources and enrichment services available in economically disadvantaged communities, both locally and globally. My grandmother’s mission and desire to strengthen the community and the church lives within my heart and has now become my purpose! I witnessed firsthand her commitment to connect with local officials to advocate for community gardens, and cleaner neighborhoods, while simultaneously leading as pastor.

Guided by Rev. Hyman's leadership, the church resonated with lively hymns, praise, and served as a safe haven for both members and the community. Today, the building still holds immense value standing as a symbol of untapped potential waiting to be revitalized. Presently, the organization has a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire and restore the church, while reviving Rev. Hyman’s mission to improve our community. “Let the building go…It’s going to be too difficult to buy and fix up”, I’ve heard. How can I? God has planted a purpose in my heart! I won’t give up on something that can benefit our kids, my peers, and our elders. Harlem has lost too much of our real estate that belongs to the core of our community. With the support of donors and grants it is important that we restore our churches so they may once again serve individuals and families.

The Building Fundraiser supports our initiative to restore the historic structure and legacy of a local Harlem church during its renovation into a community center. Phase I of the capital campaign urgently seeks $1,000,000 by June 2024 to address taxes, debt, reconstruction, and property acquisition. Unfortunately, our deadline to make an initial payment of $350,000 has passed. We ask for steadfast support to raise this initial amount, crucial for securing the building's future.

The community center goals align with the overall well-being, resilience, and vitality of the community, while preserving the significance of this historic structure. While the physical location is in Harlem, the center will be open and accessible to individuals from all neighborhoods. The renovated space will function as a central hub offering vital services, encompassing sports, wellness, art, and technology programs, along with support for college, career, and life skills development.

To foster social connections, provide support networks, and act as a resource center for collective action, G.R.A.C.E. Inc., unlike other centers, will permit independent and partnering organizations with an aligned or similar mission to offer programming, workshops, and events as it permits. With collective action, let’s breathe life into the space, restoring its purpose and potential while providing access to resources and economic opportunities that effectively address issues of poverty and inequality.
