Hi, I am Cindi Korver and I am fundraising for Kurt Kettler. On July 20th, Kurt was told he had throat cancer after having battled a sore throat for months. After testing and waiting, doctors learned it was actually nasal t-cell lymphoma, which not only is fairly rare and aggressive, but the tumor is in his throat instead of his nasal passages. All of these factors have delayed both a treatment plan and his ability to get healthy enough to do treatment. On August 30th, he was hospitalized due to his unmanaged pain, inability to eat, and to try and get the info they needed to create his treatment plan. He has remained in the hospital since that time where they have inserted a feeding tube and gotten his pain more managed. This has all taken a toll on him in the form of deep confusion and delirium, and his mobility has been greatly impaired, to the point that what was thought to be mostly outpatient treatment is no longer a reality. He will need to stay in some level of inpatient care for the duration of his treatment, which is concurrent chemo and radiation for 6-9 weeks. It will be a very aggressive attack on the cancer but will also be very aggressive attack on how he feels. Marla has been staying with him this entire time with minimal breaks due to the distance from home. She is hoping to be able to find some lodging in Des Moines to be able to rest well and still care for him during the day and if the confusion and mobility issues were to improve, Kurt could join her. So, extra funds to help pay for lodging, food, and gas would be a blessing. Kurt has lived a life of enduring pain and discomfort, but this next season may be his most intense yet.
