364 days ago, I broke the Turkish Get-Up world record, moving the weight from 200 lbs to 255 lbs, a 55-pound jump…

A few weeks ago, I learned that record was beaten by 2 pounds by a Turkish athlete.

So on February 21, I’m stepping back onto the floor to defend the title. (cue rocky 4)

The lift will be open to the public and is also a fundraiser supporting veterans’ mental health through ValorFit, an organization dedicated to connecting veterans with resources that support their mental health through training, gyms, and community. Movement can be a powerful pathway back to purpose, connection, and resilience, and ValorFit is doing that work every day.

Veteran mental health is a topic close to my heart.

Both of my grandfathers served in the military. One was captured by the Nazis during World War II and held as a prisoner of war for 18 months. He rarely spoke about that experience, but I knew it affected him deeply, and I remember watching him march with his community during U.S. holidays.

My other grandfather was also a military veteran and tragically died by suicide when I was five years old. I don’t know why he made that decision, but I do know that suicide remains a serious issue within the veteran community, with over 20 veterans dying by suicide each day.

I’m honored to support ValorFit as they work to support veterans, their families, and the broader community.

The event is free and open to the community.
