Our story….
Boy, that’s a lot to take in... I’ll try to start from the beginning.
David and I first met when I was 15 years old in high school, and we became close friends. In our 20s, we had a beautiful relationship for a number of years. As life would have it, we parted on good terms. We were just on different paths at the time. After almost 30 years of no contact, we connected again on May 25, 2023. Those 30 years just melted away, and we spoke every day until our wedding in Las Vegas on Feb 28, 2024. We were so excited to start our lives together.
In May of 2024, just a couple of months after our wedding, David was hospitalized with pain in his side and back. The diagnosis… Pancreatic cancer. To say we were both shocked was an understatement. David has already undergone many rounds of very powerful chemotherapy that have left him depleted physically. He has lost over 50 lbs since diagnosis due to the extreme nausea and vomiting. His pancreatic tumor is wrapped around his celiac artery, making the Whipple surgery not an option for him. However, there is a developed procedure called the “nano knife” that is available to him that has had many great results for other patients in David’s situation. This procedure has the potential to kill his tumor and get us to that bar of NED “No Evidence of Disease.” The issue is that this procedure is not considered a part of the standard of care for pancreatic cancer, so it’s not covered by insurance. If we are able to raise the funds by way of your generous donations, he has a real shot at getting this life-saving procedure. This is going to take a village. David is an extraordinary man, and I just want a long life with him. No donation is too small. Every bit helps. I will update you all on our progress as things move along, as I am sure you will all be heavily invested in the outcome as we are.
As soon as we can raise the funds for the procedure, it will be done by Dr. Donoway (oncology surgeon) at Atlas Oncology in Hollywood, Florida.
Some information on the nano knife procedure:
For patients with inoperative or difficult-to-reach pancreatic or liver tumors, Nanoknife (IRE) brings new hope with its unique advantages of preservation of essential structures. It is a minimally invasive therapy using electrical currents to destroy cancer cells, applicable to liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, and metastatic tumors in the liver and pancreas.
