In December, I went in for my very first colonoscopy. While this might be a routine examination for most, it turned out to be life changing for me. They found numerous polyps that needed to be removed and one polyp that they didn't feel uncomfortable removing at that time, so a surgery was scheduled in January. It was during this surgery that they found a tumor that was beside the polyp. A section of my colon was removed along with the polyp and sent off for biopsy.
When the biopsy came back, it was determined that they had found cancer cells in 2 of the 8 lymph nodes that were removed at the time of surgery. At that point, I was officially a "cancer patient" and was full of emotions about it. I began the proper steps to curing myself and figuring out what my options were as I was considered a "low risk stage 3" patient.
It has been determined at this point, that I will for sure be having at LEAST three months of treatments, if not for six months. And it wasn't long after discovering that I had cancer that I immediately began seeing everything add up around me and the walls seemed to close in slowly financially. I am the only one in my household that works and my job supports my wife and my son. While my job has been more than accommodating in terms of keeping my position open to me upon my return, unfortunately the amount I'm receiving in short term disability doesn't cover all of my expenses and the expenses that will be looming in the near future. I'm a pretty prideful man and I have never been the type to ask for any kind of "handout" and those that know me can vouch for that, however, I'm at a point in my life where I know that it never hurts to ask for help.
So, while some people might see this goal amount as a large number, this is something that has been thought about and figured out based on monthly expenses and the time that I will be out of work, going through treatments, medical expenses, etc. and it goes without saying that ANY AMOUNT HELPS!
I have faith that myself and my family will make it through this, however, the financial struggle is something that always takes a toll on your mental health during these times and that's something that I could definitely use even just a little bit of help with.
Please know that I will make it my goal to personally thank each and everyone one of you that help me out through this. I know that everyone struggles and not everyone can donate, but I can not express enough truly that every little bit helps.
