Zara's Trip To Disney World Orlando

Zara Peeling is the sweet, beautiful and fun-loving 3 year old daughter of our close friends Richard and Laura.
The Peelings live in Stowmarket in Suffolk. They are Richard, Laura and their son Druhan (5) and daughter Zara. Richard works for the RAF at the local base and they had moved here earlier in 2015. At the beginning of this year the family celebrated Christmas and New Year in their first house that they actually owned. Before then they had been moving around different RAF bases in the country where they had always lived in military provided accommodation. Shortly after the New Year, with the kids settling into new schools, nurserys and making new friends, Richard & Laura bought their children a puppy, and they all finally felt like the house they had bought was becoming their forever home.
However in February Zara developed an infection that presented symptoms of meningitis . Her parents rushed her to hospital where she was put on anti-biotics and had blood tests run. The results of the blood tests delivered some devastating news.
Zara had acute leukaemia.
Zara began her chemotherapy and started to show small improvements. However at the beginning of March Zara was taken to intensive care with swelling and trouble breathing. The infection, that was originally in her liver, had spread to other vital organs and her body was shutting down. Richard and Laura were told Zara chances for survival were slim, and they were advised to prepare themselves for the worst.
Zara was put on 3 types of extremely strong antibiotics and her chemotherapy was stopped to help her little body fight the infection. She was also sedated and put on a ventilator to keep her alive as her lungs had filled with fluid. After 72 hours Zara was still fighting. 2 weeks on her true strength and determination has shone through and she is not giving up.
Doctors have said it is likely that Zara will be in remission from the leukaemia, however she has been left with a lot of complications from the infection that are life threatening. Once the infection has cleared, she will still need several more rounds of chemothreapy to ensure she is completely clear of cancer.
Zara is also a little sister to her 5 year old brother Druhan. The effects of her illness have shaken her family to the core. Richard and Laura's parents have rallied round to keep things as normal as they can for Druhan whilst Richard and Laura are in the hospital with Zara. Although it is hard to explain to a little boy how ill his sister is, Druhan has shown maturity and strength beyond his years as he waits for his little sister to get better.
Zara and the rest of her family have shown such bravery and sheer determination to get through this awful period of time. The long journey to recovery for Zara has really only just begun so with this in mind we have set up this page to help raise some money because we would love to give the Peeling Family something to aim for and look forward too.
Like all kids, Zara loves Disney, and would love to see the princesses and all the other disney characters in person. We are hoping to raise enough money to send Richard, Laura, Druhan and Zara to Disney World in Orlando. That way the heroes and princesses she loves will get to meet a real life hero who is stronger than all of us.
