My sister Meg and her beautiful family have been dealing with some difficulties for many years with their sweet daughter Callie.
We as a family have decided it was time to get some outside help for their on-going situation. If you feel led to donate we thank you so much! If it's not possible at this time please send healing thoughts that they find the help they need for my sweet niece Callie. Please read the following story explaining why we decided to put this go fund me page out there.
Thank you so much!!
Many of you may know that Meg and Dave’s daughter, Callie, has dealt with severe struggles since she was adopted in 2004. What most people don’t know is that Callie’s struggles are virtually invisible to most people outside of their home.
It is difficult to explain succinctly the challenges they have had over the years, but Callie struggles with extreme anxiety, OCD, ARFID (eating disorder), a learning disorder, and severe attachment disorder, all of which are debilitating. Despite having seen a variety of psychiatrists, specialists and therapists over the years, it was not until Callie was 17, about to enter her senior year in high school, that she was late-diagnosed as autistic. While the autism diagnosis provided some clarity and “checked off some boxes” about Callie’s condition, the layers and complexity of autism, and the autism spectrum, presented new challenges that made Meg and Dave feel like they were “back at square one”.
As parents, Meg and Dave have poured everything into their mission to find the right help for Callie since she was a toddler. Due to her complexities, it has proven very difficult to find medical providers who specialize in a multitude of areas that need to be addressed, which might or might not be directly related to autism. For instance, foundationally, we know Callie’s eating disorder has obviously impacted her nutrition and alters her body chemistry, which makes finding the right medications more challenging. But Callie’s extreme OCD involving food and trying new things prevents her from taking supplements. Her nutritional health is a priority as they try to get to the root of her struggles.
As we all know, mental health is a big issue in this country. Most mental health professionals do not take insurance, or when they do, coverage is minimal, so all the assessments, testing, and ongoing treatments have been out of pocket for them. The financial burden on them over the last 15 years has been very difficult and continued to escalate.. Meg and Dave are small business owners, but because of Callie’s condition, which has steadily worsened over the last three years, it has been very difficult for them to work as much as they need to, and so they are caught in a loop trying to find a way to pay for the help she desperately needs, while trying to maintain and grow their business.
Callie is a wonderful girl with talents, gifts, and aspirations for the future, most of which involve helping others. But too often she is betrayed by her own brain, which prevents her from recognizing her own amazing potential. We are asking for help for Meg, Dave, and Callie so they can take the critical steps needed to find Callie the help she needs with her mental health issues. We know the Browns, especially Callie, will be able to pay it forward in the future.
Thank you!
