From Homeless to Homeowner

Susan Mercurio is a 74 year old woman currently residing in a tent in a park sanctuary in South Minneapolis. Susan has worked her whole life, raised two kids on her own, and supported her grandchildren.  She is crafty and resourceful, if you visited her now you'd see the contraption she has that turns heat into electricity to power her phone! She would love to live in a hippy commune, growing their own food, but that particular vision may have to come later, as the weather is about to turn in Minneapolis, and living in a park in a Minnesota winter is something none of us should have to do. 

For now, Susan's dream is to own a home in southern Minnesota, but she needs our support to get there! As is the nature of poverty, no matter how hard she has worked to get out of it, there are frequently barriers that are all but impossible for her to overcome on her own. Most recently, Susan worked out a payment plan on a simple debt of just $1500, but a delay in their system meant they didn't start taking out the payments until nearly 7 months after the agreement was made. Susan would be done paying off this debt as of October if they had completed their end of the deal, but instead she's just begun!

This and another, smaller bill are a barrier to her being able to get a mortgage and make her dream come true. Nikki and I are Susan's new neighbors while she is living at the park, and we are ready and willing to support her through this process, but she needs some financial assistance to get to the next step.
