The Port Pirie Motorcycle Club has run long track events at the Port Pirie Speedway since 1933 at this location.
Numerous National and State titles were held on the old mile circuit attracting international riders who all praised the track. In the mid 60s the track was reduced to a half mile and it still provided exciting racing and still attracted riders from all over the world including future world champions . there has not been a meeting run at the venue since early 2000s and an arena cross track was built on the main start finish straight , only two meeting were held on the arena cross track and the whole facility sat idle for over 10 years apart from the Port Pirie Motorcycle Club had there club rooms and held their meetings here.
The facility suffered some storm and a lot of vandalism damage over the years and the club decided to hand back the lease of the complex to the Port Pirie Council .
The SA Longtrack Speedway Supporters Club was formed after some discussion between some interested people (mainly old riders) using phones skype and social media and it was decided to pursue the lease if and when it was handed back. We have members and interested supporters in SA including Port Pirie and Adelaide , Vic , & NSW and as the title says ,we want to bring Speedway back to Port Pirie , the track here has legendary status worldwide as a great venue and it has held many national and state titles since its beginning in 1933. As can be seen it the picture that was taken at a meeting in the 1980s it attracts huge crowds to the town and all the visitors spend money on accommodation food fuel drinks etc money that stays in Port Pirie and contributes to the local economy positively.
The Easter Saturday meeting attracted huge crowds year after year
We need funds ASAP to start work as the complex has suffered some significant damage , since it was last used.
Earthworks are scheduled to start in July 2019 and there are repairs and or replacements required for plumbing electrical fencing and earthworks , We are hoping to be able to run a practice before the end of 2019 and hopefully a daytime open meeting with South Australian and interstate riders in the next 12 months.
We can offer corporate donors and sponsors a sponsorship package and signage at the track and in any future news paper and television story's .
We hope you can help return the great track to again legendary status both in Australia and overseas please share this among all your friends.
