Fund Fabiola's Satirical Horror MFA Thesis Film

Hi! My name is Fabiola Liano, and I am fundraising for my Emerson MFA Thesis Film Butterfly.

Priscilla, an OnlyFans creator claiming to be a vampire, is invited onto a podcast by two trendy young women; all three are confronted by who they are.

Butterfly is a 20–25-minute narrative fiction film. As of now, the main themes for my concept are the usage of other people and ourselves for monetary and social gain, the sexuality of vampirism, and how both this usage and the sexuality of vampirism are attempts to try to form meaningful connections with other people. Although the tone of the film is satire-horror, I simply want to explore these themes and who these female characters are in a non-judgmental way.

My goals with this film are to create a work that is conversational, thought-provoking, and informed by film theory such as Barbara Creed’s The Monstrous Feminine, while being funny and entertaining. I aim to depict a cast of characters that is entirely comprised of morally grey female characters who are both victims and villains, as these are the kinds of characters I tend to enjoy the most and would like to see more of in film. Although these characters are somewhat comedic and their comments can be funny, I do not intend to make fun of them but rather see these characters as multifaceted individuals. I want to explore a sort of monstrous femininity, particularly through the character of Priscilla, as these two terms both overlap and contrast one another to me, within this film. I aim to create a sort of deconstruction of the vampire and the vampire genre while being a filmic example of a “vampire movie”.

These funds will be utilized as the overall budget of producing, shooting, and post-production of the film.
