On Tuesday morning, February 5th, Lindsay de Feliz was sitting at her computer in her living room in the province of Santiago Rodriguez in the northwest mountains of the Dominican Republic.  Her husband and a friend had just left for a run.  

A young man, armed with a gun, entered the room through a glass sliding door from the rear of the house.  He threatened her, had her lie on the floor, then stuffed her mouth and nose with a rag until she passed out.  He then tried to finish her off by banging her head into the ceramic tile floor repeatedly until she was unconscious.

Like many in the DR, Lindsay does not have health insurance.  Unlike other countries, in the DR they will not permit you to leave the hospital unless your bill is paid in full.  Money was borrowed to settle the charges so she could go home.  This money has to be repaid.  

There will be ongoing medical bills, additional CT scans, tests, etc.
