Franco's 32+ Mile Frozen Otter Run

This January, I will attempt the Frozen Otter Ultra-Trek.  The race is considered by far one of the toughest races in the Midwest with roughly a 20% completion rate. It spans 64 miles of the great Wisconsin Glacier Trail. As if the sheer feat of conquering the mileage isn't enough, racers must do it without outside support, on the trail, in the dead of winter.

You may ask why I might do such a thing? Swimmers aren't necessarily known for running or enjoying cold weather. I would answer with two reasons: 

1. The idea of the race terrifies me and that feeling is pretty exciting. Plus, someone told me I couldn't possibly make it, so there is that.

2.  I am raising money for the Community Partnership for Youth (CPY). 

CPY is an amazing organization based in my hometown of Seaside, California. They are a prevention program providing positive alternatives to gangs, drugs, and violence while reinforcing individual strengths.

Their vision is to provide our youth with a safe, structured environment that encourages healthy boundaries, positive self-esteem and the ability to make good choices for a full and successful life. Their efforts in my community make it possible for individuals like me to succeed and go on to accomplish great things. 

So I am asking you to donate some money (maybe give up a beer or two) to support me in my efforts to help my community. If you are feeling especially brazen, you could donate to match the number of miles you think I will actually complete.  

I will keep the blog updated as I progress towards the goal! Seeing as I am doing this to charity and, therefore not above pandering, let me also point out that not only did I serve as a firefighter in Maine but I am also a veteran of the United States Army.
