Food Rescue Van
Each week the Big Reach Center of Hope recues more than 1,500 pounds of food from local restaurants, bakeries, and hospitals. In 2013 alone we have already rescued more than 20,000 pounds of food. This rescued food is given to families in need in our community.
Our 'Food Recue' program is vital in keeping our pantry stocked with food to help fight hunger in Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull, Portage, Stark, and surrounding counties. The success of this program heavily depends on our volunteer drivers and reliable transportation.
We are saddened to announce that our 'Food Rescue' van has traveled its last route. It has become unreliable and a safety hazard. Among needing new tires and a new engine, there are several other issues that would cost more than the van is worth.
We knew a new van was immenent in order for us to continue our outreach efforts but we didn't realize it would happen so suddenly. We are thankful to one of our partners who has generously allowed us to borrow one of their vans to pick-up the food waiting for us this week.
However, this is a very temporary solution and we have an urgent need to find a van and the funds to make the purchase. If we can find 1,000 people to donate $10 each, we will reach our goal and have the funds to purchase a van to continue our 'Food Rescue' program. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at [phone redacted].
