My name is Angus and I love kites. I became obsessed during Covid and never looked back.
I also love Myanmar. It was the first country I visited outside of Australia and New Zealand. I went on to live there for a number of years; I met my wife there and made countless other enduring friendships. It’s a place that will never let go of my heart.
However, for many in Myanmar and in refugee camps on its borders, life is a daily struggle. After five devastating years of civil war and recent cuts to aid programs, times are now tougher than ever.
In the face of so much suffering, it can be hard to know what to do. But the good news is that incredible people are working hard in their communities to try and improve the situation.
And what I’m gonna do is fly a kite.
To raise money for those doing this incredible work on the ground. To raise awareness among those who may not know what’s happening in Myanmar.
To raise a kite into the sky and attempt to keep it there for 24 hours, as an act of solidarity with friends in Myanmar.
Why 24 hours? Well, while I’m at it - I may as well try to set the Guinness World Record at the same time, right?
No sleep, no breaks. Can it be done?!
All funds raised will go toward supporting grassroots health and education initiatives in Myanmar and among refugee communities on its borders. Contributions of any size are welcome and will be gratefully received.
