Fix Freya’s abdominal hernia

Hi, my name is Brittany, and I’m seeking help with unexpected, emergency veterinary bills for my cat Freya, who has developed an abdominal hernia as a result of spay complications.

On the first of September, I already had to put down my childhood dog who was fifteen years old. It financially and emotionally wiped me.

A few days after I said goodbye to my girl, I ended up taking in Freya unexpectedly. My neighbors didn’t have the money or time to care for her properly, and she was left outside all the time. They said it might be for the best if I took her. Her fur was full of matted clumps, she was quite thin, but just the sweetest baby on the planet.

She bonded to me immediately, and the change in her in just a few weeks has been remarkable. She’s sweet and affectionate, loves getting her belly rubbed, and spends all her time perching on my bed.

I immediately booked a spay appointment for her, for her own health. She went in and had it done on the 23rd of September and all went well. For the first two days, recovery was relatively smooth, despite her being restless. I spent my food money on a soft shelled kennel to keep her safe and from jumping around to aid in her recovery.

Unfortunately it didn’t stay that smooth. Out of nowhere, seemingly, she developed a large bump on her abdomen. It quickly got worse. Vets are incredibly hard to come by and all packed with patients, and waiting lists are long. I rely on emergency vet care access while she’s on a waiting list.

I had to take her in tonight, the 26th, to get it checked out after they confirmed their concern from the pictures I sent. They were right to be concerned.

It turns out, her abdominal wall has seperated from the spay, and she has an abdominal hernia. It’s a surgery that must be done within a matter of days, and if anything goes wrong with her outer suture in the next few days her intestines could literally spill out. I am terrified for my girl. She deserves so much better than this.

With my illnesses, I can’t work. I’ve been fighting to get back into working shape, but with Canada’s current medical system, it’s been impossible to get much help. I’m trying my best.

I’ve been quoted $1850 for the surgery, and had to already pay $500 in emergency exam & after hours fees. I have a total monthly income of only $1000. I don’t know what else to do but try this out.

Please, if you can help, it would mean the world to me and my poor girl. I love her with everything in me. She’s only 2 years old.
The sooner I can get the surgery the better, but it must be done in a maximum of a few days.
