Fin's Fearless Fight

Please join me in raising money for my good friend, Wendy Walker and her family in support of her newborn son, Finley Everett Walker. Fin is currently battling for his life in the NICU, and they can use any and all support we can give! Wendy is my school psychologist intern at Plainfield School District 202. I first met Wendy when we were interviewing for interns back in the spring of 2021. She impressed me immediately with her passion, dedication, drive, and determination, and I have no doubt that she is bringing those same qualities to this fight that Fin is faced with right now.

 

You see, Wendy started her internship with me on August 16th at around 5 months pregnant. With a due date of early December, we were prepared for her to take some time off in December/January to be with her newborn. But, as fate would have it, little Fin had different plans. After three short weeks at work, Wendy informed me that Fin was ready to enter this world much earlier than expected. A full three months earlier. Fin was born on on 9/7/21 at 9:31 a.m. weighing 2 lbs. 9 oz. He entered the world breathing on his own and crying, which was quite a blessing given how early he was!

 

Since that time, Fin has had a tremendous amount of uphill battles to fight in his journey to health. These battles have included heart valve issues, a significant brain bleed, periventricular leukomalacia, and hydrocephalus. Through it all, Fin, Wendy, and their family have continued to fight with all of their might to get through these challenges with their passion, dedication, drive, and determination.

 

Fin still has a very challenging road ahead of him. Currently, he is fighting to become stable enough to withstand the necessary pediatric neurosurgery that will combat the brain bleed that is occurring. This family needs our support to get through this incredibly difficult time. Every single dollar counts!

 

Despite the fact that Wendy was only in my schools for a mere three weeks, she left a mark on everyone that she encountered in that brief time. She walked in that door more than ready to work, to learn, and to advocate for each and every child in our schools. In that short amount of time, Wendy established relationships with countless staff, students, and parents. In that short amount of time, Wendy became family.
