Financial Help Kelly Anne - Bilateral Mastectomy

My cousin Kelly has been diligent about cancer screenings for years, even before her mom, my Aunt Michele, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Kelly’s diligence increased in 2020 when we found that our family has a genetic mutation that causes Lynch Syndrome. With Lynch Syndrome, families will see more instances of cancer and at earlier ages. Unfortunately, Kelly’s screenings, biopsies and sheer determination to find any cancer that might pop up could not prevent an eventual tumor from appearing.

But that's what's happened: Kelly has been diagnosed with breast cancer at age 33. Early screenings have not been pleasant for Kelly, but they were done in the hopes that finding something sooner, rather than later, would make it easier to fight. Tumors have been found early and Kelly has elected to have a bilateral mastectomy to decrease the risk of recurrence.

Not only has Kelly been dealt a long family history of cancers (grandparents, Mom, aunts and uncle), Lynch Syndrome and her own breast cancer, but she is facing a hardship financially too. Last year she lost her corporate job and although she has found new, fulfilling employment working with preschool children, Kelly is too new an employee to receive her full benefits at this time. She has new health insurance, but is missing vacation days and paid time off. While Kelly recovers from surgery and the bills continue coming, she won’t be able to earn her paycheck. Kelly’s usual summer of freelance photography will be limited, as well as her ability to pay off some new camera equipment.

Kelly has her loving family to support and assist her through all this, but needs more help to cover her mounting expenses. While her spirit and smile have not been broken by this frightening diagnosis, the financial burden is threatening to do so.
