Fighting Lung Cancer with Phyllis Fiers

Hi, my name is Darla Turner and I am writing this letter to seek your support for a dear friend, Phyllis Fiers. She was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma of the right lung with metastasis to hilar and mediastinum with four lymph nodes involved. One area is on the air way making it inoperable.

I would like to tell you a little bit about Phyllis. I have known her for many years. We first met at BHP as coworkers in the ER. She is strong, strong-willed, smart, and independent. She is one of the most loving and caring people and will do anything to help someone in need. I've seen her touch the hearts of patients in ER. She has endured more than most. She has dealt with patients with cancer and family members. Her sister passed away in 2009 and her mother in 2010, both with lung cancer.

Phyllis, before her diagnosis, put in all her time and effort, and energy into her family and volunteers for Special Olympics along side her husband Mike whom coaches. Her family is everything to her and her everything to them. She is a person who is always giving and never asking for anything in return. That is just how she is. Now Phyllis is in need of our help. She and her family are facing mountains of unexpected medical bills. Her health should be the first thing on her mind, not keeping up with two households which includes a very high lease in Houston, TX near MD Anderson, which is where she will be receiving treatment. Uber trips back and forth range $7.00 to $20.00 each trip, chemo therapy, proton radiation for 6 to 8 weeks (awaiting insurance approval), then one year of immunosuppressants at home, test, cat scan, flights back and forth from Paducah to Texas, and etc. On top of the expense, her husband Mike, has taken off of work to be with Phyllis and care for her. He recently found out he is not eligible for paid FMLA.

Phyllis is determined to beat this cancer (with God's healing hands) she is focused on getting well and is selfless every minute of the day. She is not one to ask for help for herself that is why I am asking from the bottom of my heart if it is within your means to help financially, to please donate to "Fighting Lung Cancer with Phyllis Fiers". It does not matter how small or large any amount would be greatly appreciated. I want to ask if you would please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers. We trust and know our Lord is the All Mighty Healer and will provide a way to make it through this time in her life. We are thankful for those who will help and support Phyllis financially and with prayer.

Our goal is to raise $30,000 for now, but we know the expense will continue to rise so every donation will be greatly appreciated. If there is anything left over Phyllis wants to donate to another cancer patient in need.

Lung cancer is not just caused by smoking this is a "Silent Killer".
