A helping hand for a friend

Hi, friends. One of my really good friends in NY is unfortunately struggling with something we all fear to face: a recently broken down car, no family support; and, recently, no job (due to no transport). His mother (only family member left) was recently hospitalized and lost the house due to overwhelming medical bills, so times are extraordinarily tough. As hard of a worker he is, it is incredibly difficult to provide for oneself without reliable transport.

For the sake of starting with a modest goal to at least be able to afford rent and basic living requirements... the hope is to be able to stay afloat until unemployment / buying a car become more viable options.
