Our Family Friends are struggling……
Mom, Dad, and 3 daughters ages 10, 8, and 6 who live in North Coventry, Chester County, PA are some of the happiest, most compassionate, loving people you could ever meet. If you have had them touch your life in some way or another, you know what I mean. Sadly, a series of tragedies has hit this family hard and very unexpectedly.
Dad has worked since the age of 13 and has never been without a job. He has spent a lot of his time helping friends and neighbors with almost anything they ask. Mom is a nurse and works full time.
Dad was diagnosed at the age of 23 with Epilepsy. His seizures were under control and he lived a normal life until two years ago when Dad was at work one day driving his work truck when he had an accident. He was not injured as a result of the accident but, unfortunately, the accident was caused by epileptic seizures that have lain dormant for 10 years until they came raging back.
After seeking medical treatment he ended up losing his income, job - which he had worked at for 5 years, his driver's license, and some of his independence. This family has done everything to try and stay "normal" for the family's sake. The medical bills piled up quickly and have surpassed a large sum and are still piling up.
Everyone knows that raising three kids isn't easy. Mom and Dad love their children with all their heart and soul. In a time of insecurity and un-surety for them, they have a loving home to feel safe. Dad’s Father recently passed away suddenly from complications of a blood clot.
Upon returning home from the funeral, Dad was having difficulty breathing. He was taken to the ER and admitted for blood clots in both of his lungs. After testing and blood thinners he was released from the hospital with yet another hefty medical bill. Since his hospital stay, he has learned he has two genetic disorders that make him high risk for blood clots. So he is now more than likely going to live everyday being on blood thinners - which puts him at a higher risk for injury when he suffers an epileptic seizure. Some days, Dad has seizures that range from 25 to 40 a day! The family was met with a $3,500 hospital bill within their first 48 hours of this hospital stay, plus previous medical expenses, deductibles, prescriptions, copays, travel, lodging, and the current medical expenses keep growing.
As if medical problems with Dad are not enough for this family to endure, the eldest Daughter was recently diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome - which is on the Autism spectrum and the youngest Daughter has been diagnosed with Epilepsy and has low muscle tone along with developmental and learning delays.
As you may know there is no cure for Autism and some of the effects of are anxiety, obsessions and compulsions. The eldest Daughter is in need of being treated with therapy and behavioral interventions that are specific to her needs. The family is working on finding a therapist that is the right fit for the family.
In addition to traveling regularly to John Hopkins in Baltimore for both Dad’s Neurologist and now Hematologist, the family travels regularly to DuPont in Delaware for the medical needs of the children.
We all know that the battle against Epilepsy is a tough one, and then combatted with blood clots it can be lengthy and is life-long.
Our goal is set at $30,000 but we aren't really sure how much more these expenses will grow over the coming months.
With permission from our Friends, I have started this GoFundMe page to help cover the medical expenses of the family and I'm asking for your donation to help them through these tough times...every dollar will help.
