Help Ev’s Fam Pay Bills While Husband Recovers

“On September 13th my husband fell 7.5ft onto concrete. While he ‘stuck the landing’, the fall caused ‘Bilateral Calcaneal Fractures.’ Basically, he shattered his heels. Both breaks were contained in one place, with no other joint, ligament or tendon damage, requiring no reconstructive surgery! Typically, with these breaks, there are subsequent fractures in the low & mid back, but Ron has none. Thanks be to God, that although Ron suffered a severe and traumatic injury, he was spared the worst outcome. The doctor said he will literally be off his feet for at least 3 months, then physical therapy will start.
We are a single income family of seven. Ron has been a bricklayer for 22 years. In that time, he has never called in sick, or taken off work because he was hurt. This is a seriously trying time for him. (AND ME!). He wasn’t at work when this happened. We don’t have sick pay, vacation time or paid leave. If he doesn’t work, he doesn’t get paid. This means we are losing at least 3 months of income.
Had this happened in 2020, we’d be financially okay, (we had a baby emergency fund), but the California Covid Lockdowns depleted it. On top of that, the transmission in our car decided to quit on us. (If this isn’t an example of why you should have Aflack and talk to that lady about the extended warranty of your vehicle, I don’t know what is. We don’t have either). “
