Organic Tea Tree Grower wiped out by Australian Bushfires
The recent bushfires which ripped through Australia has caused significant damage to our precious Australian animals and families alike.
One of Down Under Enterprises' long standing growers of certified organic Tea Tree Oil, Kamal, was severely affected by the bushfires. On December 2, she awoke to the roaring sounds of the fires encroaching from three sides of her farm. Over the course of the day, she and her farm staff could only watch as massive flames overwhelmed all firefighting activities.
Her 80+ head of organic beef cattle found themselves trapped between the fires and a line of firefighting trucks and equipment. Unfortunately the cattle chose to remain in the trees and were largely consumed by the fires which soon after tore through the area.
In the aftermath, Kamal and her team surveyed the damage:
- 67 cattle and calf lost
- Two tractors burnt out
- One bulldozer destroyed
- 20 acres of young tea tree seedlings destroyed
- Seedling nursery destroyed
- ~8 1/2 miles of fencing destroyed
- Water pipes, storage tanks and pumps damaged beyond repair
