As most of you know by now my brother Eric Martinez was officially diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) aka Lou Gehrigs disease. There is currently no cure nor is there a clear reason for it's development. I have never went into Eric's story before ALS, so I would like to share and highlight some of his accomplishments.
Eric spent 16 years as a teacher and principal helping at-risk, low income kids in Houston develop into resilient, well rounded leaders of their communities. Eric helped create programs where students graduated academically but more importantly, graduated equipped to be successful stewards of change. Eric's personal goal is to inspire and prepare students of limited economic resources to succeed in school and lead their communities as compassionate, committed, and competent men and women. Eric molded this by graduating from UT, becoming an educator and successfully earning his doctorate degree. Now, even with ALS, he believes God has given him a second chance at life. Eric's dedication and daily drive to educate kids is clear because he advises student teachers and interns at UTPB. He hopes he will inspire them to model his personal goal. Because of the help of family, friends, and colleagues, this is still possible.
I have always and will forever look up to my brother and this is why I have set up this GoFundMe account. This is to help with his medical bills and travels for clinic to Houston. Any little bit will help including inspiring words, thoughts, and prayers. I will continue to keep everyone updated on his journey; not a journey by choice but a journey nevertheless.
