Hi friends! Guess what?! I DID IT!! I was awarded a full tuition scholarship to Berklee 5-Week!!! Berklee College of Music, located in Boston, Massachusetts, is the largest independent college of contemporary music in the world. I've had my sights set on this 5- Week summer program for years (!) and I am sure that it will be a monumental opportunity for me to grow musically and learn from some of the leading educators in the music world.
Unfortunately, scholarships do not cover housing costs, which amount to $3,855 for the 5 week program, due June 1st. This includes accomodations at a Berklee dorm and a meal plan. I hope to attend Berklee as a college student when the time comes, so attending this summer program will allow me to get a head start while earning college credit! I will also be able to audition for a college scholarship at the end of the program. This experience will be a fantastic end to an amazing and music- filled school year. A few highlights were spending time in Nashville last summer at the Chet Atkins Society gathering and hanging out with Tommy Emmanuel, John Knowles, Guy Van Duser, and many others. I also had a great trip to Kentucky to play on a PBS TV/Radio show along with Eric Johnson! My favorite times, however, are spent in ATX where the local music is world class. As many of you know, I live in Austin, TX, and am currently attending Austin Community College's Dual Credit Program. As a 10th grader I have been working hard at ACC and am enjoying taking Music Theory, Sight Singing and Ear Training, as well as classical voice and classical guitar instruction. I am earning A's while preparing to be a successful Berklee student!
I consider myself incredibly fortunate to call Austin, TX, home; which is has been a music education in itself. My gratitude for our supportive local music community is deep, and I will carry this all the way to Boston and back. A Berklee education is something I have dreamed of, and if you could help "go fund me," I promise to do my best to make you all proud and to represent ATX in the best way I know how.
