Emily NYC Marathon Bring Change 2 Mind Fundraiser
Tax deductible
I am running this year's TCS NYC Marathon and wanted to put some meaning behind my miles. Having worked at NYRR for a little over 3 years, I worked countless hours of the marathon but now's my chance to experience it from the other side as a runner. I'm so excited to party through the streets of New York City on the first Saturday in November from hearing "New York, New York" at the start, to the silly signs throughout the course and finishing in the best place in the world - Central Park.
Why Bring Change 2 Mind? I was immediately drawn to this organization because it was founded by Glenn Close who's her sister has Bipolar. My older sister also has Bipolar as well. Our family hasn't been vocal or open about it over the past 7 years since my sister was hospitalized. She has her own story to share, so I will share from my perspective as a sister. For me, I didn't know where to turn or how to best support my parents or sister, so I'm so thankful to see that in today's society, mental health has become a topic that is regularly talked about. However, I think there is more work to be done! When I've been open to discussing my family's situation, I've learned that many people have similar stories. So what I love about Bring Change 2 Mind is that it has programs in high schools to support conversations around mental health. They are looking to empower students to educate anyone and everyone to understand mental health and create a culture of support. I feel so strongly that this can change lives and hope you feel the same and help support!
