Emergency surgery for Bug the cat

Hi there, this letter is very difficult to type. Our dear, 8 year old cat, Bug had an accident last night that shattered her front right leg. We were able to get her to the vet ER and get her stabilized and x-rayed. Upon analysis, her leg and paw are broken so badly that repairing surgery would not only be extemely expensive, but also require a CT scan that happens to only be available 150 miles away. $1300 later Bug is at home and uncomfartably resting in limbo. We have a window of a few days to act and either reapair the bones or amputate the leg. The early estiamte for surgery is around $3500 and potentially $5k at the high end if repairded and they do not take payment plans or CareCredit.

That said, the full repair surgery seems extreme. It may sound strange but considering how well cats can do with only 3 limbs, and how much damage there is in her arm, amputation doesn't sound horrible with the circumstances. We're still woefully short of funds to accomplish much of anything beyond the $1300 we've invested for teh ER visit and couldn't even go this route if we chose.

Our only other option is euthanasia. This notion is really destroying me right now. I can't imagine having to go this route, but it may be our only recourse.

I know the urge will be to say, if you can't afford pets you should not have them, and I pretty much agree. I feel this scenario is unique in it's random and extreme nature. In 35 years of owning my own cats and dogs, this is the only instance like this that has ever occurred to me. Starting a GoFundMe in an attempt to make the surgery happen is an absoluter last resort. I would otherwise never even consider asking someone to help me pay for my own responsibility, but I simply don't know what else to do and All I can do right now is see my kitty sitting uncomfortably in pain.
