Rebuild Eden at an Orphanage

Anao, Tarlac, Philippines


$2500 would:
- Send one young adult rescued from a forced labor camp to a permaculture training in Central Luzon, Philippines
- Hire him to work at the orphanage for abandoned, abused & handicapped children for ONE YEAR
- Buy initial supplies necessary to get the project rolling
- Take care of fees occurred from transferring money around the world

THE STORY

I had been volunteering at an orphanage in the Philippines in the town where my grandparents live. It was just a short walk down the street from my house. Each day I would go there, I would fall a little more in love love with each and every one of the children that lived there. I wanted to help them in so many ways. Perhaps another special education teacher? A garden project? A food forest? The possibilities were bubbling in my brain for weeks while I spent my days at the orphanage.

One day during my work at the orphanage a whole busload of young adults rescued from a forced labor camp in Pampanga are dropped off at the orphanage. Most, if not all of them, have never dreamed of anything but living hand to mouth for the rest of their days. They would spend the next several weeks at the orphanage as the tried to figure out what to do next with their young lives.

Meanwhile, I had been researching places in the Philippines that use permaculture techniques. I wanted to volunteer there as well, and I discover that there is a permaculture training site approximately 1.5 hours from the orphanage. Bingo!



Connecting the dots...

I would like to raise money to send one of the young adults recently rescued from a forced labor camp to study at this facility, and come back to the orphanage to implement what he has learned and teach the children and staff about sustainable agriculture techniques.

I have already identified the best candidate; Jun Jun from Mindanao has studied Environmental Management & has an interest in staying and helping the orphanage. The orphanage is excited at the possibility of getting another staff member, resources to build a green house & grow more food.

I would like to help them.
