Ease suffering in the Dominican Republic
Donazione protetta
GLORI: Great Lakes Orthopedic Relief International sends volunteers to the Dominican Republic to ease suffering, improve health and promote well-being for those in need.
GLORI, and partners, have served the poor and injured in the Dominican Republic for more than a decade. We provide logistical and financial support for various medical missions.
A team of 13 experienced and dedicated health care professionals travel to La Romana, Dominican Republic to volunteer at El Buen Samaritano Hospital, a non-profit hospital that provides care for local residents and Haitian immigrants.
The orthopedic surgeries we perform are no different than the daily surgeries we do in the States. The difference is that there are more resources here. In the DR, with the vulnerable populations we serve, if we were not there to help, there is no help. There is no social safety net for the people who can’t pay for care. No Medicaid. No insurance. Out of pocket or nothing. This has a negative impact on the whole social structure, not only the individuals we help. Care for the individual leads to the communal good.
Our next trip is this April, 2022. We are raising funds to help our health care team cover the costs of travel, accommodations and medical supplies.
GLORI is in the process of becoming a 501c3 non-profit, but for now your donations are not tax-deductible. However, we will follow-up with you about how the April trip went, plans for our November trip and our non-profit status.
Because of you, communities in the Dominican Republic will have more active, vibrant and connected lives.
Thank you.
