Support Joey’s road to recovery
Donazione protetta
Hi everyone! For those who don’t know, my little cousin Joey Hart was in a bad motorcycle accident June 12th. He was ejected from his bike and hit a road sign taking off his left leg below the knee. Joey was coherent the entire time and with his amazing instincts was able to get his helmet off and use his shirt in attempts to Tourniquet his leg. By the grace of god 3 vehicles immediately stopped to assist him. One being a heroic gentleman with quick thinking that used his belt to tourniquet the leg, a nurse, and the Doctor who was quick to call dispatch.
The doctor came across a prayer post we had made on Facebook and reached out.
He wrote “ the man who quickly applied the Tourniquet Without a doubt saved his life. Joey was conscious and told me his name, he kept telling us to tell his family he loved them. He was clearly in shock and lost a fair amount of blood. I have been worried all night he might not make it, I’m so grateful to find out he did.”
Those three saved his life that day, without them he would have bled out. It truly is a miracle he is still with us. Joey was transported to St Mary’s hospital where he was then care flighted to Miami valley to undergo his first surgery. Everyone who assisted him that day saved his life and he will forever be grateful for them. He has now undergone three surgeries. The second was in attempts to keep him a below the knee amputee, however the skin was dying very quickly. The decision was made for his third surgery to go above the knee, he is now a left leg above the knee amputee.
Now onto the healing and recovery path! The doctors have estimated around 4-6 weeks for his leg itself to heal. Once healed the process of getting fitted for a prosthetic leg begins! That will take another 6-8 weeks, where he will then be going through intensive rehabilitation to learn how to walk again.
Joey expressed how grateful he is for All of the support he has received, it has truly kept him in good spirits with a positive attitude. He spoke out stating “God spared me on that Wednesday, and he has a purpose for me on this earth. I hope to be an inspiration to others and help as many people as I can”.
Joey is fortunate to have a career that he loves working at Honda, but unfortunately it will be a while before he is able to return. With that being said I wanted to start a page for the bills he will have coming in while he’s unable to work. Any amount of donations is helpful and appreciated.
Thank you all for the unconditional love and support!
