Soñando con una Vida Libre de Convulsiones

My name is Kristen and I am organizing this on behalf of Michelle, my cousin. She currently lives in Gutemala where this platform is unavailable to withdraw funds. We will be making sure we update donors and ensure all the funds go directly to Michelle.

La historia que les voy a compartir es acerca de mi misma, Michelle MM. Al final del párrafo encontraras un video con mi historia y el por qué estoy llevando a cabo este fundraising.

I was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy at the age of 9 due to a case of meningitis, back when there was no vaccine. I had it when I was 1 year old, so I’ve been living with this condition for over 22 years.
Although it has been a constant in my life, I was recently told that I'm drug resistant, which means that my body won't react to any medication. According to my doctors, the only viable solution to fully control my condition is brain surgery. While this is a scary option, I’ve never been able to go longer than four months without an epileptic episode. After some research, we confirmed that drug resistant patients have a 0.80% vs an 80%-90% to be seizure free with a brain surgery. Day to day things are the toughest to do. I just get anxious as to when my next seizure will be, if I'll be safe and if the people around me are ready to assist me properly. Just the fact that I'm dependent so much on my family as an adult is very frustrating and makes me want to cry out of frustration and sadness.
I’m starting this GoFundMe because the cost of the needed surgery is high. And unfortunately, my insurance does not cover it because it’s a preexisting condition. I want to have the surgery because I want to change my reality by having the chance to live by myself and drive without worrying I might have a seizure. Eventually I would like to have a family and kids. For many, a dream come true is to have a car, a house or a perfect job. However, for me it's to have a seizure free life, having some relief that my mom can sleep peacefully without me having a seizure and causing her stress. Another dream I desire is to know that my dad can use his income to pay for other things that aren't my medications, doctor's appointments, or medical tests.
I thank you in advance for your donations towards this fundraising. This surgery means a lot to me since it's such an important step for improving my quality of life. God Bless you for helping me make this come true.
