DOULAS CARE AFRICA
A Doula is: “a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible...Doulas have a positive impact on the wellbeing of the entire family.” (DONA)
Doulas Care Africa (DCA) was formed by international mindful doulas and medical professionals. After watching this video https://bit.ly/2Ou3wp3, and given the Cameroon statistic that one mother dies every five minutes during their perinatal period in 2017, DCA went into action. Paying their own way, the women under the leadership of Barbare Hotelling, MSN, FACCE, AdvCD (DONA), CHT Duke University School of Nursing - Clinical Nurse Educator, went to Cameroon to train Doulas in remote areas.
Since the initial trip to Cameroon, requests for similar programs have been received, through the International Mother Baby Childbirth Organization (IMBCO). No funding has been received for trips to other developing countries such as Barbados.
Barbara has the next trip in the works, going to Kenya.
Let’s get some financial help for this great cause. Airfare, food, lodging and travel has been approximated at $2500 per person. At this time there are 7 volunteers for this humanitarian trip. We need to raise $17,500. This does not include supplies. “We are hoping to get them donated, “ states Barbara.
