Doni Wilson Hurricane Harvey Relief
Doni Wilson, an English professor at Houston Baptist University, and her sixteen-year-old son, Christopher, are among those who lost everything in Hurricane Harvey's floods. After two evacuations via boat, Doni and Christopher, along with Doni's parents, have found temporary shelter with a Houston area family. Now they face the challenges of finding a new home, sorting through their water-soaked possessions, and beginning the new academic year. Most of their clothes, furniture, books, and other possessions had to be tossed. Houston rental prices, already high, are climbing. They need assistance with rent, deposits, clothing, and household furnishings, among other things. The fund will be used to replace Doni's car, a total loss, as well as for a deposit on an apartment and the first month's rent. She and Christopher also need school and work clothes as well as furniture, especially beds. Doni will be able to withdraw funds from the GoFundMe account by transferring them to her banking account. I first met Doni when we were graduate students at UNC and have become a fan of her creative writing and theater reviews thanks to Facebook. She is a dedicated teacher and has been amazingly upbeat throughout this ordeal. Thanks for all of the support she has received.
