Donation for new school desks in Loyok , Indonesia

Hi, my name is Martina, I’m from Italy and in the last 14 months Im travelling around Australia and Indonesia.

During this trip to Australia I heard the call to a part of me that would like to make a difference in this great big ocean.

There are populations in the world that are not lucky enough to be born among the comforts we are used to.

October 2023 Lombok, Indonesia

It was a late afternoon and I was travelling aboard my scooter in the middle of the rice fields, looking for something.

'I arrived in Loyok, a village in Lombok famous for textile processing, where I met Jose, one of the few ''locals'' in the area who spoke good English.'

That afternoon we talked a lot and I confessed to him this desire of mine to go and visit a school since in the previous days I crossed paths along the street many children who were Amazed by the presence of a foreign person.

The next day Jose accompanied me to the elementary school he attended as a child. I didn't want to show up empty-handed and so I filled my backpack with candy to offer the kids.

Once I entered I was literally stormed by more than 100 children between the ages of 5 and 10, I was very surprised by this explosion of joy towards me.

Later I went with Jose and some teachers around the school and I realised the state in which the classrooms were: the desks were full of splinters and nails, the roofs mouldy and with various holes, unfortunately even the bathrooms were in very bad condition.

Following my visit to the “SDN 1 Loyok” school I felt the duty to do something to help these children and thanks to the use of social media, I would like to try to involve you and help make the conditions of this small Indonesian community better and safer.

What is my project?

The funds we will be able to raise by October 8, 2024 will be used for the necessary work with the collaboration with Jose who has a small construction company in the village.
