The Problem
In rural Ethiopia, our affiliated poultry farmers are losing hundreds of chickens, not because of disease, but because of darkness. When night falls, the chicken coops go pitch black. The birds panic, injure themselves, or even die in the chaos. Without consistent light and warmth, egg production drops, threatening farmers’ livelihoods and local food security.
Our Solution
At Sight and Life, we’ve been supporting Egg Hubs that help farmers produce affordable, high-quality eggs. Now, we want to equip these hubs with solar panels to provide reliable, sustainable lighting and energy.
Each solar unit will:
- Keep chickens calm and safe overnight
- Improve egg production and farm efficiency
- Reduce reliance on costly, unreliable electricity
- Support women and youth-led poultry enterprises
Why It Matters
A simple solar system can change everything: More light means fewer chicken deaths, higher egg yields, improved nutrition outcomes, better income for local farmers, especially women, who make up a large share of Egg Hub workers.
Your donation helps install a portion of a solar system at an Egg Hub site, directly impacting families and communities across Ethiopia.
Who We Are
Sight and Life Foundation is a Swiss-based Non-Profit organisation delivering science-based solutions to close the nutrition gap. For over 30 years, we’ve supported nutrition programs in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, helping millions access better diets and opportunities.

At Sight and Life, we are dedicated to improving nutrition and supporting smallholder farmers in low-resource settings. Over the years, we’ve developed the Egg Hub model to address food security and empower rural communities in Ethiopia, Malawi, Brazil, and, most recently, India.
Our Egg Hub project has already made a significant impact. Through this model, farmers have seen their businesses thrive. We’ve helped increase egg production by up to 3 times, tripled the income of farmers, reduced egg prices by 40%, and improved the diets of families, as egg consumption in households increased from an average of 2 to 9 eggs per month. Eggs, rich in protein and micronutrients, have become more accessible and affordable to rural communities, especially to women and children who benefit from this vital source of nutrition.
How You Can Help
- Donate: Every amount counts. From $10 for a solar bulb to $100 for a solar panel share.
- Share: Spread this campaign to your friends, networks, and organisations.
- Partner: If your company or group wants to support a full Egg Hub, reach out to us directly at [email redacted]
Transparency and Updates
All funds go directly to Sight and Life Foundation’s official account in Switzerland.
We’ll post regular updates with photos and stories from the Egg Hubs as installations begin and production improves.
Each donation will bring us one step closer to powering 20 farms and ensuring a consistent supply of fresh eggs for Ethiopian families. Together, we can light up farms, protect lives and livelihoods, and contribute to a healthier, more sustainable food system!
